Hi-Tech Aids to Find
Missing Children

DENVER, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Virtela, a global secure network solutions company, today announced that the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children(R) (NCMEC) has selected Virtela's managed Virtual Private Network (VPN) services to speed communications between its employees and law- enforcement in providing nationwide services for families and professionals in the recovery and prevention of abducted and exploited children.

NCMEC is using Virtela's network-based SSL VPN and broadband VPN solution to connect approximately 250 employees across six branch offices and enable thousands of federal and local law enforcement around the world to quickly and easily access NCMEC's national clearinghouse of child information anywhere, anytime via a standard web browser.

"Getting critical information into the hands of law-enforcement immediately is essential to our daily operations," said Steve Gelfound, Director of Information Technology for NCMEC. "From any location, our employees can use the Virtela managed network solution to gain instant, secure access to missing and exploited case files to help law-enforcement bring more children home."
Virtela's SSL VPN solution is replacing a self-managed IPsec VPN client environment at NCMEC that became increasingly difficult to deploy and manage as their global reach expanded. In particular, law enforcement agencies have myriad levels of IT support and network security constraints that often required one-on-one attention to work through VPN client issues. The new "clientless" network eases the management burden. Virtela's network-based SSL VPN solution provides professionals around the world with user-friendly, secure connections into their organization's network from any Internet browser and supports those users on a 24x7 basis.

"NCMEC is a leader in leveraging technology to make a marked difference in child recovery rates and Virtela is honored to be a part of their mission," said Larry Morgan, Virtela's CEO. "Our goal is to ease network complexity for both end users and IT management so they can focus on the time-sensitive tasks in working with families and law enforcement to prevent the victimization of children."
With the Virtela solution, NCMEC's employees can now more easily exchange E-mail and access key databases and documents from home or on the road. Virtela's network-based service provides secure remote access for mobile workers and partners with centrally located SSL devices within the Virtela global network. This enables multiple locations to leverage the hardware within a secure, fully managed environment, dramatically reducing the upfront costs while delivering more efficient use of network bandwidth.
